Wonderful Fermented Cranberries Recipe

One of the Healthiest and Easiest Ways to Ferment: Fermented Cranberries

Fermented cranberries offer numerous health benefits because they contain rich probiotics. These probiotics support gut health and enhance the nutritional profile. Fermenting cranberries retains antioxidants and vitamins that are found in fresh cranberries. Fermentation increases the nutritional bioavailability, making them easier for the body to absorb. In addition, fermenting cranberries improves the flavor.

Recipe:

1) You need 2 cups of cranberries and 1/2 cup of sugar, or double the recipe. How much or how little sugar you add is up to you, but add at least the minimum so it can ferment.

2)  Rinse and crush your cranberries lightly. I put mine in the blender. This breaks the skin and releases the juices. The skin contains the yeast.

3) Combine the crushed cranberries and the sugar in a bowl and mix well.

3) At this time, I add some water, but according to another online recipe, this is not required. It is up to you how much water you add. I put enough to cover the crushed berries.

4) Put the crushed and sugared cranberries into a Mason jar and cover them with a coffee filter.

5) Ferment the berries at room temperature, not near the sun.

6) Shake the mix daily or use a spoon to stir.

7) Taste along the way, and once the flavor is to your liking, you can refrigerate it. It could take about  2-7 days to harvest the fermented cranberries. It will make a rich, tart syrup as it is fermenting. The color is usually a beautiful ruby red when done.

8) You can use the fermented cranberries as syrup in drinks or just add the fermented berries to your yogurt.

9) You can keep them in the fridge, or you can dry them to make cranberries.
